Video: Soccer Teams Play On During Tornado

By on October 3, 2012 in Multimedia

“When you take that field today, you’ve got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you’ve got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows. And if you do that, if you do that, we cannot lose.” — from We Are Marshall

Was it a mini-tornado or a Dirt Devil? Whatever the technical classification, the spontaneous whirlwind sent spectators fleeing but players on the South American soccer field stayed focused at the task at hand.

From Metro UK:

“As the ball is played down the far touchline, a flurry of dust and debris is whipped up in the background, but as the supporters grab possessions and run for cover, the players show true dedication to the cause as they barely bat an eyelid and play on.

They obviously had ‘play to the whistle’ drilled into them as youngsters!

The mini-tornado sweeps its way across the goalmouth before it disperses and the game can continue. Bizarre.”
