A horrific last-lap crash at Daytona International Speedway resulted in injuries to several fans as debris pierced a safety fence and flew into the stands. At least 11 fans were transported to hospital including one with head trauma following the 12-car pileup. Halifax Health reports that all are in stable condition.  All drivers involved in the crash were uninjured.

The crash sent NASCAR rookie Kyle Larson‘s car into the fence with large parts of his car, including a tire, landing in the grandstands. The front of Larson’s car was sheared off.  The race winner, Tony Stewart, decided against the usual post-race celebrations out of concern for the injured.
