P1010029_smTORONTO, ON. — It was a cold, blistery day in Toronto.  Everyone was hidden away at home hibernating.  Not even the prospect of a hockey game could get them to come out.  Okay, maybe the weather wasn’t quite so oppressive, but even if it was, a Hockey Party in Toronto’s Habs Mecca is always enough reason to brave the elements.

On Saturday, February 23, Habs fans in Toronto met up at Kilgour’s Bar Meets Grill for a Hockey Party to share some food, a few pints, and the New York Rangers vs Montreal Canadiens game.  The cozy quarters and RDS broadcast of the game made it feel more like home.  There were a lot of newcomers at the party but no one would’ve known – everyone at the All Habs tables chatted and laughed as if they had been friends for years.  But let’s remember, we’re all Habs fans here.  We have priorities.  So, obviously, we restricted our chatter to commercial breaks and intermissions!

The All Habs Trivia Challenge served as our mid-game entertainment.  While everyone tried their hand at, reining supreme was our resident hockey expert, @SeriousFan09.  Our other winner with the most creative answers was @DahliaKurtz.  Prizes (an All Habs t-shirt and a Canadiens toque) are en route, dispatched from All Habs headquarters.

The buzz created by one of our gatherings is undeniable, as was illustrated in this example from the evening: a few of our attendees weren’t able to sit with us, but had a table close by.  The traffic between the All Habs mothership table and @tabithalavoie’s satellite table piqued the interest of other neighbouring Habs fans who expressed a keen interest of attending future Hockey Parties.  The more the merrier!

Like any gathering of friends, as the night wore on, crazy stories were exchanged, tattoos were shown (“Ohmigawd, @TheSchwartz54 has a Dryden tattoo!”) and collective cheering for the Sens triumph over the Leafs erupted just seconds before the clock sealed the Habs domination over the Rangers.  That’s not to say the bar didn’t erupt with joy when the Habs won, but the lungs did get a bit of a warm up from the Sens-Leafs game.

It was a fabulous gathering of Toronto-based Habs fans.  We also warmly welcomed fans hailing from Mississauga and Hamilton.  Great fun was had by all, and we hope to see you at the next Hockey Party!
