For any business or individual attempting to create a ‘brand’, a strong and consistent social media presence has become mandatory. That extends to professional sports teams and athletes such as those in the NHL, with all of the teams fully engaging with Facebook, Twitter and other social outlets to connect with their fan base. Players, too, often get in on the act, many of them using social media to show appreciation for team-mates and supporters, or to give a personal insight into lives that are routinely played out in public.
Calgary hockey school Tucker Hockey created this infographic which identifies the 10 most popular NHL teams on social media, as well as the most followed players. There’s also a series of suggested Twitter accounts that are likely to appeal to hockey fans, covering bases from news and fantasy tips to media personalities and novelty accounts.
In the present day, millions of sports fans worldwide regularly turn to computers and smartphones to get their fix of news and updates.
